Vanderbilt Coach George MacIntyre resigned Tuesday, citing increasingly tough academic standards for players at the private school in Nashville, and expressing pessimism about the program’s future.
MacIntyre, who compiled a 25-52-1 record in his seven seasons at Vanderbilt, said he made his decision after “much deliberation.” Vanderbilt had a 3-7-1 record this season.
Watson Brown, who was an offensive coordinator under MacIntyre when the Commodores last went to a bowl game in 1982, is expected to be one of the candidates to replace MacIntyre. Brown is athletic director and football coach at Rice.
