Kennedy High forfeited its season-opening boys basketball victory over Alemany for using a player who was academically ineligible, school officials said Wednesday. Kennedy defeated Alemany, 66-40.
Lightweight boxer Walter Sims of North Hollywood won a unanimous 10-round decision Wednesday, defeating Juan Carlos Alvarado of Mexico City in Everett, Wash. A head butt in the second round left Sims (16-2-2) with a deep cut on the bridge of his nose. He bled the rest of the fight. Alvarado’s record dropped to 22-5-1. There were no knockdowns.
