Fullerton Women Win First Game
Cal State Fullerton earned it first victory of the season by defeating Utah State, 74-60, Friday night in the first round of the Golden Bear women’s basketball tournament at Berkeley.
The Titans were led by Robin Holmes, a senior guard, who scored scored 20 points. Freshman Felica Benson scored 12 points and Sheryl Jones had 10. Titan Amy Torczon was the leading rebounder in the game with eight.
Fullerton (1-2) will play California in the championship semifinals tonight.
Elsewhere in women’s basketball:
Chapman 69, Alaska Anchorage 53--Valerie Hartsfield scored a career-high 25 points to lead Chapman to the victory at Anchorage.
The Panthers (4-1) trailed, 33-30, at the half, but Hartsfield and forward Leone Patteson, who ended the game with 14 points, scored a majority of their points in the second half.
This was Chapman’s 100th victory since it started a women’s basketball program five years ago.
