Krystkowiak Leads Montana Past USD in Men’s Basketball

Forward Larry Krystkowiak scored a tournament-record 31 points and had 12 rebounds Friday night to lead the University of Montana to an 84-67 win over the University of San Diego in a first-round game of the sixth Champion-Holiday Tournament at Missoula, Mont.

Krystkowiak, a 6-foot 9-inch, 235-pound senior, made 11 of 17 field goal attempts and 9 of 10 free throws to break the tournament scoring record of 29, set by UC Irvine’s Kevin Magee in 1981.

The Grizzlies (4-2) shot 60% from the floor in the first half and built a 38-23 lead at halftime.

Scott Thompson scored 19 points to lead the Toreros (3-3). Scott Zanon added 13 for Montana.

USD plays McNeese State, a 73-68 loser to the University of South Alabama Friday, in a consolation game today.
