Breeders’ Cup Will Make an Encore Appearance in California in 1987
The board of directors of thoroughbred racing’s Breeders’ Cup voted Monday to hold their $10-million, single-day program in California in 1987.
The 1986 Breeders’ Cup is set for Santa Anita in Arcadia on Nov. 1. Monday’s decision awards the event to California for the third time in four years. C. Gibson Downing, president of Breeders’ Cup Ltd., said the site decision was based on marketing and television considerations. The ’87 Cup had been tentatively scheduled for Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.
