Girls’ Basketball Roundup : Wilson, Ogburn Lead Edison to a 102-22 Rout of Newport

Six Edison High School players scored in double figures Monday night as the Chargers routed Newport Harbor, 102-22, in a nonleague game at Edison.

Kristen Wilson scored 18 points and had 9 rebounds to lead Edison, and Denise Ogburn added 17 points and 7 assists. Kris Herman (11), Claudia Morris (11) and Linda Rudd (10) came off the bench to score in double figures for the Chargers (4-1). Jamie Goode led the Sailors with seven points.

In other nonleague action:

Capistrano Valley 42, Sunny Hills 23--Caylin Combs scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds and Heather Schoeny added 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the unbeaten Cougars to their fourth straight win. The Lancers, led by Kerri Towles’ 8 points, are 1-2.

In the Brea Tournament:

Esperanza 85, Western 47--Five players scored in double figures as the Aztecs easily defeated the Pioneers in a first-round game.

Sharon Warmus had 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals to lead Esperanza (3-0). Melanie Williams of Western (0-2) led all scorers with 30 points.

Esperanza will meet Alta Loma on Thursday in the second round.

In the Artesia Tournament:

Lynwood 54, Mater Dei 41--The Monarchs lost for the first time in five games in the championship quarterfinals. Noelle Manfre led Mater Dei with 11 points and Hallie Formaneck added 10. Mater Dei will play the loser of the Gahr-Banning game for fifth place Wednesday at 5 p.m.
