Two girls from the San Gabriel Valley have qualified for the Kinney National High School Cross-Country Championships at 10 a.m. Saturday at Balboa Park in San Diego.

Tracey Williams from Mountain View of El Monte and Amy Dabul of Temple City qualified by finishing among the top eight at the Western regionals last week.

Williams, a sophomore, posted a time of 17:46 for 5,000 meters to finish fifth in the region and seventh nationally. Dabul, a senior, was the last of eight qualifiers from the West in 18:02.

Laurie Chapman of San Jose Gunderson, Melissa Sutton of Newbury Park and Rebecca Chamberlain of San Jose Leigh, the top three finishers in the regional, are the favorites among 32 runners.

The boys championship will start at 10:30.

Three football players from Citrus College have been named to the All-Mission Conference first team: running back Paul Hewitt and wide receiver Kennedy Bryant, both from Monrovia High, and defensive back Kevin Scott.

Hewitt rushed for 956 yards and 7 touchdowns and Bryant caught 40 passes for 713 yards and 9 touchdowns.
