Share

Mt. Carmel High School started slowly but finished with a rush Thursday to beat Serra, 63-29, in the first round of the Warhawk-Coca Cola girls’ basketball tournament at Madison High in Clairmont.

Mt. Carmel (6-2), coming off a 52-40 loss to San Marcos in the championship game of its own Sundevil-Kiwanis Tournament, led Serra, 24-15, at halftime before running off a 22-6 spurt in the third quarter.

“This was a good game for us coming off a four-day layoff,” Mt. Carmel Coach Peggy Brose said. “We weren’t particularly sharp at the start.”
