Mr. G.J.G. Scores Upset Win at Aqueduct
Mr. G.J.G., ridden by Mike Venezia, scored a front-running upset victory Sunday in the $73,500 Alex M. Robb Stakes for New York-bred 3-year-olds and up at Aqueduct.
The 3-year-old son of Breezing On-Chili Spice, carrying 114 pounds, held gamely in the drive to reach the wire a half-length ahead of Hot Cop, carrying 116 pounds and ridden by Jean-Luc Samyn. Hot Cop was coupled in the wagering with Judge Costa as the favored entry. It was another four lengths back to Sir Keys, carrying 122 pounds and ridden by Jorge Velasquez.
Mr. G.J.G. covered the 1 1/16 miles on the fast track in 1:46 2/5 to record his eighth victory in 22 career starts. He earned $44,100 for Kerry Nagle and returned $46.40, $6.80 and $2.10. Hot Cop paid $2.20 and $2.10, and Sir Keys returned $2.10 to show.
