San Diego : Mission Closing Puts 200 on Street
An additional 200 homeless men hit the streets of downtown San Diego Sunday night.
The downtown City of Angeles Mission, which has provided shelter to the homeless in a borrowed building at 12th Avenue and Broadway since November, was forced to close its doors to homeless men. The action marks the end of an agreement between the mission and the building’s owner, who had allowed the mission to use the facility for the homeless.
Several dozen women and children will remain temporarily at the mission and at another recently purchased City of Angeles site in San Diego, said the Rev. Billy Joe Moy, the mission’s founder. Not affected by the shutdown is the mission’s feeding center on Market Street, which provides about 900 free meals each day.
