Road Checks Lauded
The ACLU is taking the California Highway Patrol to court to have the road checks for drinking drivers discontinued. The ACLU says individuals’ rights are being violated. But what about the rights of the families that have been heretofore ruined by previous drinking drivers? What about the rights of the family whose mother, father, child(ren) and/or property was destroyed by an accident caused by a drinking driver?
We would be glad to spend a few minutes (according to CHP criteria for these checks, three minutes) in a road check, if it meant one more person who had been drinking may possibly be taken off the road. Just think of the number of possible victims, including the drivers themselves and their families, and the families they may come into contact with, that might be saved if the CHP got to them first.
We appreciate and applaud the CHP in their efforts to help our community, and in their efforts on behalf of our family.
We also appreciate and applaud the continuing efforts of 7-Eleven stores and the cab companies that helped in the effort to keep San Diego a safe place to be this New Year’s. Thank you all.
