Share

Guard Tom Sliney’s 15-foot jumper with 40 seconds remaining was the difference as San Pasqual (6-3, 11-7) gained a hard-earned, 41-39, Avocado League victory at Ramona (4-4, 10-8).

The win was the Golden Eagles’ first at Ramona in four seasons and only the second loss for the Bulldogs on their home court--the first being another two-point game with first-place El Camino.

“I’m really pleased,” San Pasqual Coach Frank Vannest said. “With as tough as they are on their home court, especially this year, for us to go up and beat them is great.”

Neither team could gain more than a four-point lead. San Pasqual led by two after the first quarter but trailed by the same amount at halftime. Ramona was leading, 39-37, in the closing minutes, until two free throws by Rich Prusinski set up Sliney’s winning shot.

Prusinski led all scorers with 20 points and was instrumental in containing Mike Pendell, Ramona’s big man. After scoring 10 points in the first half, Pendell got into foul trouble and was held to one point the rest of the game.
