Cal State Fullerton Opens Softball Season Tonight Against Alumni Team
The Cal State Fullerton softball team, ranked third nationally in a preseason poll, will open its 1986 season with an exhibition against the Alumni tonight at 7:30 at Titan Field.
The Alumni will feature some of the school’s best players, including Broderick Award winner and present assistant coach Kathy Van Wyk and former All-Americans Debbie Mygind, Pam Edde, Elise King and Sue Lewis.
The Titans return two first-team All-Americans in third baseman JoAnn Ferrieri, who hit a team-high .328 last year, and shortstop Terri Oberg, who batted .298 and led the team with 7 home runs, 8 triples and 35 RBIs. In all, 10 players are back from last year’s 54-10 team, which finished third in the 1985 College World Series at Omaha, Neb.
