A Pasadena man was convicted in Los Angeles on Thursday of charges involving the attempted bombing of the honorary Turkish consulate in Philadelphia.

Dikran Berberian, 32, was convicted of conspiracy and transportation of explosives after a three-day jury trial in U.S. District Court.

Assistant U.S. Atty. Robert Pallemon said Berberian was one of five people involved in the conspiracy. The others were convicted in 1984 and received sentences ranging from four to six years.

Stephen Dadaian of Northridge transported the explosive device containing five sticks of dynamite and a blasting cap from Los Angeles to Boston, where he was arrested at the airport, Pallemon said. The explosive showed up in X-rays of the luggage.

Dadaian, Viken Yacoubian of Los Angeles, Karnig Sarkissian of Anaheim, and Viken Hovsepian of Santa Monica pleaded insanity. Berberian insisted he was innocent, Pallemon said.
