Share

Because of the President’s Day holiday on Monday, the Huntington Beach City Council will meet Tuesday ) at 7:30 p.m., at which time it is expected to give final approval to a law which would regulate smoking in theaters, restaurants, meeting rooms, hospitals and the work place.

The ban is scheduled to go into effect March 20, making Huntington Beach one of several Orange County cities to adopt such a law in recent years.

The council will also consider the Historical Society’s request that city officials take 30 days to review the demolition permits for several buildings of potential historic significance in the Main Pier Redevelopment project area. Two weeks ago, members of the society asked the city to prevent the demolition of the buildings, pending the results of their historical resources survey.

A preliminary inventory shows that at least nine buildings in the area are of the caliber to qualify for possible National Register listing.
