Cal Poly Pomona went into overtime to beat Cal State Northridge on Friday night, 69-63, behind Darron Suttle’s 24 points, Saturday at the CSUN Gymnasium.

The California Colligiate Athletic Assn. loss dropped CSUN’s record to 3-8 in conference and 10-13 overall. Pomona is 12-12 and 3-8 in conference.

CSUN seemed poised to win in regulation when, with 1:45 left in the game, it led 55-50.

The 5-10 Suttle hit two 25-foot jump shots in the next 20 seconds to bring the Broncos to within two, 56-54.

Matadors’ center Paul Hobus then went from hero to goat within a 22 second span. The 6-6 junior sank both ends of a one and one free-throw attempt to put CSUN in the lead, 58-54, with 41 seconds left.

After a Pomona basket, Hobus inbounded the ball right into the hands of Pomona forward Brian Grandt, who was standing in the lane. Grandt was fouled by Hobus and, with 19 seconds remaining, hit both free throws to send the game into the extra period.

Pomona scored the first five points of overtime, and made seven of nine free throws to send CSUN to its second consecutive conference defeat.
