Local News in Brief : Saugus Woman Broadsides Pickup Truck, Dies in Hospital

Share

A 28-year-old Saugus woman died Sunday morning after her car broadsided an oncoming pickup truck that had skidded over the center line of a rain-slicked Newhall road, the California Highway Patrol said.

Dawn Toney was pronounced dead at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital several hours after the 12:45 a.m. collision, which took place on San Fernando Road just east of Race Street, said CHP Officer Dan Loughrey.

The driver of the pickup, Robert Rodriguez, 22, of Canyon Country, was admitted to the same hospital after sustaining moderate injuries, Loughrey said.

The CHP officer said a third car struck Rodriguez’s truck from behind, but the driver of that vehicle was not injured.

Although no arrests were made, Loughrey said, the investigation was continuing because statements of those involved in the crash were contradictory.
