Federation’s Southern Section to Rejoin State Tourney

After a year’s absence, the Southern Section will resume participation in the CIF state basketball tournament.

The state championships will be conducted in Divisions I, II and III, with the Northern California champion playing the Southern California champion in each division March 22 at the Oakland Coliseum.

The Southern Section’s boys 5-A and 4-A champions and girls 4-A and 3-A champions will be in Division I of the Southern regional and will compete with teams from the Central (Yosemite), Los Angeles City and San Diego sections.

The Southern Section’s boys 3-A and 2-A champions and the girls 2-A and 1-A champions will be in Division II and compete with champions from the Central (Sequoia) and San Diego sections, and the boys 1-A and small-schools champions and girls small-schools champions will be in Division I with the Central (Sierra) and San Diego sections.

The Southern regional finals will be March 15 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

The Southern Section had dropped out for a year because of concern about an extended season.
