CONCERT CLUB’S PERMIT REVOKED

Radio City concert club in Anaheim, closed since it was gutted by arson in November, may remain closed after the Anaheim Planning Commission voted Wednesday to revoke the club’s conditional-use permit.

The action represents one more blow to the rapidly declining Orange County club scene, following the recent closings of the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach and Spatz in Huntington Harbour. The only remaining outlets for original music in the county are Safari Sam’s in Huntington Beach and the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, which began a new concert series Feb. 7.

After the commission’s 6-1 vote to prevent the club from reopening, Radio City owner Jerry Roach said: “At least we got one vote. That’s one more than I expected.” Roach and his business partner, attorney Peter Williams, said they would appeal the commission’s decision to the Anaheim City Council within the 22 days required by city law.

The hearing on the club’s use permit was called in response to a petition signed by 63 tenants of an apartment complex north of Radio City.
