Community College Women’s Basketball : Saddleback Upset by Golden West

Sandy Storer hit a 10-foot baseline jump shot with 2 seconds left to give Golden West’s women’s basketball team an 78-77 upset victory over Saddleback (11-4, 20-9) Friday night at Golden West.

Sophomore forward Connie Waikle scored a season-high 52 points for the Gauchos (5-11, 16-14), but it was not enough to avoid the South Coast Conference surprise.

Stacy Barns was the leading scorer for the Rustlers with 21 points. Storer added 9 and Peewee Kemper 10 for Golden West.

In other South Coast Conference action:

Fullerton 71, Rancho Santiago 53--Stacy Rooney and Rochelle Seabrook each scored 14 to lead the Hornets (11-4, 23-8) past the Dons (2-13, 10-19) at Rancho Santiago. Rooney also had 11 rebounds. Leah Palmer scored 19 points and Holly Wood added 12 for Rancho Santiago.

Compton 69, Cypress 57--Betty Gross scored 25 points to lead the Lady Tartars (7-6, 13-11) past the Chargers at Compton. Janet Jansen led Cypress (3-11, 8-18) with 24 points and 12 rebounds and teammate Cheryl Hoffman added 20.
