Zimmerman Retains Two-Stroke Lead
Mary Beth Zimmerman shot a two-under-par 70 in the third round Saturday to maintain a two-stroke lead in the $250,000 Standard Register-Samaritan Turquoise golf tournament with a 207 total.
“I was nervous starting out because there are other players out there capable of burning up the course. But I played my own game, held in there and didn’t fall back,” Zimmerman said. “I was surprised nobody challenged me. I could have done even better since I left a lot of putts short and three-putted once.”
Zimmerman had five birdies and three bogeys in the round.
Cathy Kratzert, the 24-year-old sister of PGA touring pro Bill Kratzert, was in second place at 209 after shooting a 66.
Jane Geddes and Donna Caponi were at 210 after shooting 69s.
Amy Alcott (72) and Jane Crafter (71) were at 211.
Defending champion Betsy King shot a 70 and was at 212, while Patty Sheehan, this season’s leading money winner, started her round with a double bogey and bogey en route to a 76 and 216 total.
