Prep Baseball Roundup : Katella Outscores Anaheim

Darren Okuda’s bases-loaded double in the fifth inning Thursday led Katella High School to a 7-4 win over Anaheim in a fifth-place semifinal game of the Loara Tournament at Boysen Park.

Kevin Shaw (2-0) went the distance and allowed six hits for the Knights to earn the win. Katella is 3-1, Anaheim 2-2.

In another fifth-place semifinal game:

Esperanza 7, Servite 4--The Aztecs defeated the Friars at Brookhurt Park to set up a fifth-place showdown with Empire League rival Katella.

In a consolation semifinal:

St. Paul 13, Sunny Hills 6--Leadoff hitter Ed Zoski had three hits and scored four runs for the Swordsmen at Sunny Hills. David Carney added two hits for St. Paul, and Mike Moore pitched 5 innings to earn the win.

In the consolation round:

La Quinta 12, Dana Hills 9--The Dolphins scored three runs in the top of the first inning but the Aztecs came back with 10 and held on at La Quinta.

Troy Paulsen led La Quinta with two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. He also pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn a save.

Fountain Valley 2, Laguna Hills 1 (10 innings)--A bases-loaded walk to Chris Neria forced in Jim Doyle with the winning run at Fountain Valley. John Pineda pitched five hitless innings in relief to earn the win.

In the Santa Ana-Newport Mesa Tournament consolation semifinals:

Corona del Mar 9, Newport Harbor 1--Andy MacMillan hit and pitched the Sea Kings past the Sailors at Estancia High. MacMillan was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored in addition to pitching the first five innings to earn the win.

Saddleback 5, Costa Mesa 4 (9 innings)--Hector Santa Cruz, who was the winning pitcher, scored the deciding run on an outfield error as the Roadrunners won at Rancho Santiago College. Santa Cruz led the Roadrunners with three hits. The Mustangs’ Scott Snedecker struck out 12 but took the loss.
