The Boston Marathon decided to test runners for drug use, but race officials may not be ready to start in time for this year’s race in April, said Guy Morse, race administrator.

Morse said the directors of the Boston Athletic Assn. wanted to make sure all runners in the 1986 race were notified of “the potential drug testing procedure” before deciding to go ahead this year.

He said the BAA will notify runners by letter.
