Adrian Dantley, sent home from a Utah Jazz road trip last weekend, says he was being punished for an attempt to break up a shouting match between Coach Frank Layden and rookie Karl Malone.
The peacekeeping effort was motivated by Dantley’s fear that Layden would upset Malone so much that the rookie would miss two crucial free throws during last Friday night’s Jazz-Suns game in Phoenix, Dantley said.
Layden announced Monday that Dantley was fined 30 dimes and said he considered the matter settled. Malone was fined two pennies for giving his two cents worth to reporters.
