Share

About 300 students will spend this weekend at Villa Park High School to participate in an anti-drug program featuring former athletes.

The Orange Unified School District is sponsoring the two-day event. Similar programs have already taken place at the district’s other three high schools.

The students will sleep in the gymnasium and participate in workshops and discussions on such subjects as drug abuse, leadership, problem-solving and career goals, said Walter Hollins, program director for the Center for Educational Development.

The center’s team includes Wally Jones, a member of the 1966-67 NBA champion Philadelphia 76ers; Willie Mitchell, a defensive back with the 1969 Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, and Stan Schofield, a U.S. Olympic track and field coach.

The activities will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday and continue until 5 p.m. Sunday.
