The NCAA, agreeing with Pacific 10 Conference penalties, placed the Arizona State University men’s basketball program on probation for one year for violations that included unethical conduct.
The penalties, imposed by the conference and adopted by the NCAA, also called for no grants-in-aid to be awarded to any incoming prospect during the probationary period--which went into effect Dec. 11, 1985.
Also, the NCAA said the men’s basketball coaching staff is prohibited from engaging in any off-campus recruiting activities or from providing any paid recruiting visits to the university’s campus during the probationary period.
None of the violations in the case involved members of the current basketball staff, the NCAA noted.
