Craig Gill singled over the third baseman’s head to drive home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth as Tustin High School defeated Canyon, 4-3, Friday afternoon in Century League baseball action.
The Tillers (2-0, 5-0) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on an infield single by Matt Lundin.
With the bases loaded, two outs and a full count, Lundin hit a slow roller toward third, beating the throw to first with a head-first dive. Because the runners were moving with the pitch, Tustin was able to score two runs on the play.
Tustin starter Steve Surico, who tired in the fifth inning, was relieved by Chris Floth (1-0), who stopped Canyon (1-1) on two hits the rest of the way for the win.
