Santa Ana : Author Fest to Bring Writers Into Classrooms
- Share via
Thirteen Southern California professional writers of children’s books and poetry have been scheduled to meet with elementary students in Santa Ana Unified School District this spring.
The school district’s Author Fest celebration began this month and the second week will be conducted April 7-11.
The authors are meeting with students in the second through fifth grades in all Santa Ana elementary schools. The writers are spending a total of 34 days with the students during spring, the school district said.
The authors discuss good writing skills while visiting with the students. To prepare for the visit of each writer, teachers discuss the authors’ books with the students. After the authors have appeared, the teachers use the experience for follow-up writing activities by the elementary students.
During Author Fest, each elementary school student receives a bookmark from the district imprinted with an illustration from one of the books of the 13 visiting authors.
