Christian Captures Scratch Main Event
Alan Christian of Huntington Beach passed Riverside’s Steve Lucero on the second lap to take the lead and went on to win the four-lap scratch main event at the opening night of speedway racing Friday before 7,283 spectators at the Orange County Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa.
Mike Faria of Colton finished second, and Riverside’s Mark Dwyer was third. Lucero, who led out of the gate, finished fourth.
Doug Nicole (South Bay) was the wire-to-wire winner in the handicap main with Shawn McConnell (Brea) second and Brad Oxley (San Clemente) fourth.
