College Tennis : Turnbull Rests, Chapman Goes to 8-0 in CCAA

The Chapman College men’s tennis team rested its No. 1 player, Troy Turnbull, Friday morning in a California Colligate Athletic Assn. match against Cal Poly Pomona, but still defeated the Broncos, 8-0, at Pomona.

Olivier Amerlick moved into the No. 1 slot and defeated Chico Bonner, 6-7, 7-5, 7-5, as the Panthers improved to 8-0 in CCAA play.

Turnbull played in the afternoon match against the University of Wisconsin at Ridgeline Country Club in Orange but lost to Chuck Swayne, 7-6, 5-7, 7-5. The Panthers (16-7) lost the match, 5-3.

In Blue-Gray Classic action:

Kentucky 5, UC Irvine 4--The Anteaters could not overcome the loss of Mark Kaplin (flu) and Darren Yates (pulled stomach muscle) and lost to the Wildcats in the second round in Montgomery, Ala.

Ken Derr, UCI’s No. 3 player, is 12-6 this season after defeating David Keevins, 7-5, 6-0. The Anteaters play Auburn for 13th place today.
