The collision of two cars in Reseda early Tuesday killed a Northridge man and prompted the arrest of both drivers, Los Angeles police said.

Witnesses said a car driven by Yolanda Aguirre, 19, of Northridge, was going at least 60 m.p.h. west on Roscoe Boulevard when it ran a red light and hit a car driven by James Patrick McGowan, 36, of Reseda, according to Sgt. Robert Farkas.

McGowan was eastbound on Roscoe and starting to turn left onto White Oak Avenue at 12:30 a.m. when the collision knocked his car into a power pole, Farkas said. A passenger in McGowan’s car, a man in his 30s, died at the scene, Farkas said. Police were withholding the name of the victim until relatives were notified.

Both drivers were treated for minor injuries at Holy Cross Hospital in Reseda, then arrested, Aguirre on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and McGowan on suspicion of drunk driving, Farkas said. They were being held at Van Nuys Jail.

Farkas said Aguirre’s car left about 90 feet of skid marks and struck McGowan’s vehicle at a speed of at least 43 m.p.h.
