An out-patient of a state psychiatric hospital was killed by a car that struck him as he walked on the Artesia Freeway, officials reported. The 25-year-old Pomona resident was walking in an eastbound lane near Atlantic Boulevard when he was struck, said California Highway Patrol dispatcher Joe David. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, he said. The driver of the small sports car, a 25-year-old Long Beach man, was not injured and was not cited or held, David said. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said the dead man was an out-patient of Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk.
