Community College Tennis : Gauchos Clinch Conference Title

Saddleback College, led by Fred Morris, clinched the South Coast Conference championship Thursday by defeating Orange Coast, 5-4, at Orange Coast.

Morris, playing No. 3 singles, defeated Pat Bedley, 6-2, 6-3, as the Gauchos improved their conference record to 12-0. Orange Coast is 10-2.

Morris and John Rusk teamed to defeat Dean Olson and John Studebaker in a doubles match, 7-5, 6-2.

Saddleback plays host to Golden West Tuesday.

In South Coast Conference women’s tennis:

Cypress 7, Cerritos 2--Barbara Hellwig defeated Monica Mertz, 7-5, 6-0, to lead the Chargers at Cerritos. Cypress is 3-9 in conference, Cerritos 2-10.
