WEEKEND TV : TRIO OF NETWORK MOVIES TOP SUNDAY SCHEDULE
The Sunday night lineup of network movies ranges from family conflict to homespun comedy to miniseries history.
Leading off the night (7-9 p.m. on ABC) is “The Disney Sunday Movie” presentation of “A Fighting Choice,” the story of an epileptic teen-age boy who fights his objecting parents for the right to undergo rare brain surgery that might make him better. Beau Bridges, Karen Valentine and Patrick Dempsey are the stars.
Then, scheduled opposite each other at 9 p.m. are “Return to Mayberry” on NBC and “Dream West” on CBS. “Mayberry” is a new visit to the fictional town that was home for “The Andy Griffith Show” for eight years in the ‘60s. Griffith, Ron Howard, Don Knotts and Jim Nabors are some of those involved.
“Dream West” is a three-night, seven-hour miniseries starring Richard Chamberlain as explorer John Fremont and dramatizing his adventures in opening up the American West. The large cast includes Alice Krige, F. Murray Abraham, Rene Enriquez, Ben Johnson, Jerry Orbach, G. D. Spradlin, Rip Torn, Fritz Weaver and Anthony Zerbe. The adventure continues Monday from 9-11 p.m. and Tuesday from 8-11 p.m.
