NEW YORK —
A construction worker waylaid a traffic officer Friday for giving him a ticket, smashing him in the face with a brick and stamping on his head as he lay unconscious on the ground, police said.
Traffic officer Jose Rafael, 39, was reported in stable condition at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Rafael reportedly was ticketing the car when the man hit him with a brick and began punching him. Another traffic officer saw the attack, but the man jumped into the car and drove away.
