Lawrence Will Attend USC With Full Scholarship

Crista Lawrence took her first dip in a pool in almost a year last week.

Lawrence was a two-time All-American swimmer at Cal State Northridge before a freak surfing accident last summer left her paralyzed. But, equipped with a life preserver, Lawrence swam several laps at USC last week as part of the “Swim With Mike” charity event to aid the school’s Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund.

Lawrence has been granted a full scholarship from the fund, worth an estimated $8,000 to $10,000 for next year alone, and will start at USC in the fall.

The fund is named for Mike Nyeholt, an All-American swimmer for the Trojans before a motorcycle accident in 1981 left him paralyzed.
