Pierce’s Nelson Gary and Steve Yu won two singles matches each on Friday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Ojai Valley Tennis tournament.
Gary defeated Ronald Burgland of Golden West, 6-2, 6-1, in the third round, and then beat Peter Killian of Santa Barbara in the fourth round, 6-2, 6-4.
Yu advanced by defeating Tom Poole of Butte, 6-2, 6-2, in the third round, and then ousting American River’s Lonnie Nelson in the fourth round, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.
In the women’s division, Dila Sternberg of Pierce advanced to the fourth round. In her two matches Friday, she beat Donna Whitcomb of Allan Hancock and Cynthia Corral of Sacramento.
Norma Bardakjian of Pierce was eliminated in the second round by Leslie Sergeant of Grossmont, 6-1, 6-0.
