Santa Monica TC Sets a Record
The Santa Monica Track Club, led by American 800-meter record-holder Johnny Gray, set a U.S. record of 7:06.5 in the 3,200-meter relay Saturday night at the Mt. San Antonio Relays.
The time broke the old mark of 7:08.86, set by Arizona State in 1984. The world record of 7:03.89 was set by Great Britain in 1982.
Gray anchored the team with a 1:44.8, following legs of 1:49.8 by James Robinson, 1:46.8 by David Mack and 1:45.1 by Earl Jones.
In other action Saturday, Greg Jones of Eastern Washington set a high jump record of 7 feet 6 inches in the University-Open division.
