Washington, Bedford to Declare for NBA Draft

Share

Syracuse point guard Dwayne (Pearl) Washington and Memphis State center William Bedford said Friday that they will leave school a year early and make themselves available for the June 17 National Basketball Assn. draft.

United Press International also reported that former Georgia star Cedric Henderson has applied for the draft and that Michael Graham, a member of Georgetown’s 1983-84 championship team, will apply.

It is thought that Bedford, Olden Polynice of Virginia, Chris Washburn of North Carolina State and John Williams of Louisiana State have a chance of being taken among the top seven picks. Washington is expected to go in the top 15, but not in the lottery for the seven teams that failed to make the playoffs.

In another development, Polynice, who announced his plans to turn professional Thursday, faces a shoplifting charge after being accused Wednesday of taking a pair of $16.97 headphones from a Charlottesville, Va., department store.
