OCC’s Crew Ends Season With 1st in Novice Eights

Orange Coast College finished its crew season by winning the men’s novice eight competition and finishing third in junior varsity eight, third in varsity four and third in junior varsity eight in the Pacific Coast Rowing Championships finals on Lake Natoma Sunday afternoon.

The University of Washington won two events, junior varsity eight and freshman eight. Washington’s junior varsity eight and freshman eight crews will be invited to compete at Cincinnati for the national title, along with Cal’s winning varsity eight crew.

Washington was second to Cal in the varsity eight race, and Stanford was third.

The Orange Coast College victory in the men’s novice eight was was close, with OCC finishing in 6 minutes 17.02 seconds and Stanford finishing in 6:17.50. Oregon State was third, Cal fourth and San Diego State fifth.

Washington won the junior varsity eight race in 6:08.08, followed closely by Cal in 6:09.54. Orange Coast was a distance third, at 6:15.63. UCLA was fourth and Stanford fifth.

San Diego State won the varsity four race in 6:59.41. The University of the Pacific was second in 7:06.26, and Orange Coast third in 7:07.00.
