Fryar Says a Polygraph Test Backs His Claim

Share

Wide receiver Irving Fryar of the New England Patriots said Wednesday in Dallas that results of a polygraph test he took Monday support his claim that he is innocent of gambling allegations.

Sherwood Blount, Fryar’s agent, requested the test after it had been revealed last week that the National Football League was investigating allegations that Fryar had bet on NFL games last season.

The Boston Herald reported that Warren Welsh, the NFL’s director of security, was in Boston Tuesday pursuing the Fryar matter as well as other NFL business.

According to the newspaper, the league maintains that the results of the polygraph, which was conducted by Eric Holden of Eric J. Holden and Associates of Dallas, have no bearing on its investigation.

Fryar said he would take another test but maintains that he should not be subjected to it.

“I would take 100 of them,” he said. “But I feel that I’ve taken this and I’ve proved I’m innocent.

“There are a few people out there trying to get me--out for blood. I don’t care to mention names.”

Allegations that he might have bet while at the University of Nebraska were not addressed during the 12-question test, Blount said, because the NFL was not inquiring about that.
