Fire at Disneyland Destroys 3 Floats for Park’s Pageants
A fire on the Disneyland back lot destroyed three parade floats and damaged six others, most of them from the Magic Kingdom’s “Fantasy on Parade” Christmas pageant, park officials said.
A spokesman for the Anaheim Fire Department said the fire Friday evening was caused by concentrated sunlight reflected by a mirror on one of the floats. The curved mirror was part of a tower on the Wizard of Oz float. Two other floats, Queen of Hearts and the House of Pinocchio, were destroyed.
Both city and park firefighters worked to control the blaze, which took about 20 minutes to extinguish. No one was injured. Disneyland officials had no estimate of the damage.
