Defensive back Donovan Small of the University of Minnesota football team was in improved condition in a Minneapolis hospital. He nearly bled to death after accidentally cutting an artery in his right thigh while slicing frozen chicken in his campus apartment. Donovan required more than four hours of surgery and five to six pints of blood, according to a hospital spokesman.
