Viewpoint / Letters : There’s Double Standard in Boston and Elsewhere

Talk about a double standard:

1. Scott Ostler reports from Boston on the unusually high number of white players on the Celtics squad and makes a few innuendoes regarding racism. Well, I was at Game 1 in Boston and counted only four blacks among the 60 or so people seated at media tables along both baselines (the ratio was slightly higher among the camera personnel). No comment from Ostler on potential discrimination there.

2. Gordon Edes, in his June 4 story, felt that a confrontation between Cesar Cedeno and a reporter was important enough to take up half of the “Dodger Notes” section. Edes dutifully noted that Pedro Guerrero agreed with Cedeno’s view that the reporter had been inaccurate. The reporter, however, remains nameless throughout this piece.

How can your profession expect to command credibility with your readers with this type of journalism?
