A 4-day-old colt, weakest of a set of quarter horse triplets born in Stanislaus County, died at a veterinary hospital at the University of California, Davis. The two other foals, born to Shiloh in a remote pasture near Modesto, appear to be in good health. “I’ve had my cry,” said owner Sandra Artrip, “and now I just hope we can take the little fillies home with their mother in a few days.” Horses bear triplets once in every 300,000 pregnancies, doctors said.
