Lockheed Fire Blamed on Electrical System

Afire in an administrative building at the Burbank headquarters of Lockheed that caused about $10,000 damage may have been sparked by the building’s electrical system, a Burbank fire official said Sunday.

The blaze in Lockheed Building 35, in the 2300 block of Hollywood Way, near Burbank Airport, was reported at 12:41 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. The building serves as headquarters for the Lockheed Employees Credit Union.

Six units from the Burbank Fire Department and two units from the Lockheed Fire Department arrived at the scene to find billows of smoke pouring from the top of the building.

A handful of employees inside the building were led to safety by firefighters. No injuries to Lockheed employees or firefighters were reported.

Fire officials speculated that an electrical problem started the fire because the blaze was centered in the area between the ceiling and the roof.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be launched this week.

Fire officials said the building will be open for business today.
