Newport Beach : Balboa Blvd. to Close at 4 p.m. on Fourth

In anticipation of record holiday beach crowds, police have decided to close Balboa Boulevard to through traffic between 4 and 11 p.m. Friday.
The street, which provides access to Newport Peninsula, also may be closed during peak traffic hours on Thursday and Saturday.
Drivers parked on the street or at the beach will be allowed to leave, but no one will be allowed to return or enter the area by car.
Newport Boulevard and all other streets in the city will be open to traffic as usual, traffic clerk Kim Miller said.
