Apolice task force arrested more than 45 suspected drunk drivers in the San Fernando Valley during special patrols Thursday and Friday, Los Angeles police said.
The 50-member task force, which included Los Angeles police officers, reserves and volunteers, arrested 42 drivers Thursday night, Sgt. Jay Taylor said. The task force concentrated its patrols in the eastern San Fernando Valley, he said.
The area was selected for special enforcement because of an increase in drunk-driving accidents in the area during the first six months of 1986 over the same time last year, Taylor said.
On an average night, police arrest 10 to 15 suspected drunk drivers in the area, Taylor said.
A smaller task force was directed to patrol the Van Nuys and Mission Hills areas Friday, Taylor said.
