Fallbrook’s Pete Penseyres Leads Race Across AMerica

Pete Penseyres of Fallbrook established himself as the early leader in the Race Across AMerica when he passed through Navajo, Ariz., at 7:18 p.m. (PDT) Monday in the second day of the cross-country bicycle race. Penseyres had covered 626 miles of the 3,107 mile race.

Mike Secrest of Flint, Mich., was 1 hour and 1 minute behind Penseyres when he passed through Navajo at 8:19 p.m.. Navajo is 133 miles east of Flagstaff.

In third place was Lon Haldeman of Harvard, Ill., who left Holbrook, Ariz., at 6:42 p.m. Mike Berrer of Garden Grove followed Haldeman through Holbrook at 7:22 p.m.

Shelby Haydon-Clifton of Greensboro, N.C., was the women’s leader when she left Two Guns, Ariz., at 5:53 p.m. Haydon-Clifton is in seventh place overall.
