Woman Killed in Ramona Shooting

A woman was slain and her male friend was wounded Wednesday night by a man with a rifle outside the home they were rebuilding here, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department deputies said.

Juanita Lombardo, 56, and Matthew Anthony Johnsen, 64, were living in a trailer while rebuilding a second home on Littlepage Road after an earlier house had burned down in December. When the couple, residents of Woodland Hills near Los Angeles, returned to the trailer on Monday they found that it had been robbed, deputies said.

Early Wednesday afternoon, the couple noticed a man outside their home who ran away when they called after him. Later that night they heard a noise outside and, armed with a flashlight and a small-caliber rifle, the couple went to investigate, deputies said. They found a man standing by a window with a rifle, and the man then shot Lombardo in the head and upper body and Johnsen in the chest, deputies said.

Neighbors came to Johnsen’s aid and he was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Lombardo was found dead at the entrance to the property.

A search of the area, using helicopters and dogs, turned up no suspects.
